SMART External File Storage

SMART External File Storage provides seamless integration between Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and external file systems through a unified API. The solution includes two connectors, each designed for different connectivity scenarios.

Available Connectors

FTP Connector

Enables connectivity to remote servers using multiple protocols:

• SFTP / SCP — secure file transfer over SSH
• FTP — standard file transfer protocol
• WebDAV — web-based distributed authoring
• S3 — Amazon S3-compatible storage

On-Premises Connector

Enables connectivity to on-premises file systems through a secure WebAPI service:

• Direct access to local/network file systems via IIS-hosted WebAPI
• OAuth 2.0 authentication with Microsoft Entra ID
• File access control through Windows account permissions

Common Capabilities

Both connectors integrate with the External File Storage module and provide:

• Full set of file operations: create, read, upload, delete
• Directory management: create, browse, delete
• Secure credential storage in Business Central isolated storage
• Unified API for consistent access regardless of the underlying protocol
