MDM Sender Setup Guide

The MDM Sender Setup page is the central control panel for configuring Master Data Management on the sending (master) company. It provides a step-by-step guide through the entire setup process.

To open this page, select the search icon Search in the top right corner and enter MDM Sender Setup in the search field. You can also open it from the MDM Destination Companies page using the MDM Setup Guide action in the toolbar.

Step 1. Configure data sets

Data sets define which tables, fields, and filters to replicate to destination companies. You need at least one data set before setting up destination companies.

Click the Data sets field to open the data sets list. See Creating a dataset for detailed instructions.

Step 2. Set up credentials

Credentials authenticate with destination environments when sending packages. We recommend using OAuth with an Entra app registration.

To set up OAuth credentials:

  1. Create an app registration in the Azure portal for the destination environment's tenant
  2. Note the Tenant ID, Client ID, and create a Client Secret
  3. Click the Credentials field to open the credentials list and create a new credential with these values

See Creating a credential for data transfer for detailed instructions.

Step 3. Add destination companies

For each company that should receive replicated data:

  1. Install SMART MDM in the destination environment
  2. Open the MDM Receiver Setup page in the destination company and copy the Web Service URL (see Setting up the receiver environment)
  3. Create a Destination Company card and paste that URL, specify the company name and credentials
  4. Use Check Connection to verify

Click the Enabled destination companies or Total destination companies fields to open the destination companies list. See Creating a destination company for detailed instructions.

Step 4. Set up receiver permissions

On each destination environment, the Entra app or user specified in your credentials must have permission to run the MDM receiving API:

  • For OAuth: Open Entra Applications (labeled "Azure AD Applications" in the system) in the destination company, register the same Client ID used in the credential, and assign it the SMART MDM Full permission set.
  • For Basic auth: Ensure the user account has the SMART MDM Full permission set.

See Setting up the receiver environment for detailed instructions.

Step 5. Create job queue entries and monitor

MDM uses three periodic jobs to automate replication:

JobCodeunit IDDescription
Change Tracking70860201Monitors changes to configured data set tables
Create Packages70860202Serializes changes into packages
Send Packages70860205Sends packages to destination companies

Create a Job Queue Entry for each one. Click the MDM job queue entries field to open the filtered job queue entries list. See Using the job queue for detailed instructions.

The monitoring section shows today's package statistics:

  • Packages created today — number of outgoing packages created
  • Packages sent today — number of packages successfully sent
  • Packages with errors today — number of packages that failed (shown in red when non-zero)
